The Village's many wetlands and marshes, presents more well-preserved environmental features than other similar suburban communities. Keep an eye out while enjoying the Village's parks, ponds, or even your own backyard, for a variety of native and migrating birds including Hawks, Sand Cranes, Bald Eagles, and Bufflehead ducks. Also, lets not forget the protective turtle species that meander around!
The Pingree Grove Forest Preserve is home to Great Blue Herons, nesting Sand Hill Cranes, and a host of fine wetland birds. It is a popular visiting area for viewing the endangered Yellow-headed Blackbird and the American Bittern.
