Residents who will be away from their home for more than 2 months may inquire if they are eligible for a Voluntary Service Suspension. Service must be discontinued entirely, so if someone is at the house to perform work requiring water or if the home is for sale and water is required for real estate showings, the voluntary service shutoff may not be a viable option. Water/sewer usage is billed on a two-month cycle. Usage meters are read at the end of even-numbered months (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct, and Dec), and billed at beginning of odd-numbered months (Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov). Download a Utility Billing Calendar for specific details.

To fund the operating expenses, debt service, capital improvements and replacement costs for Village water and sewer treatment infrastructure, a minimum rate structure is imposed on each water and sewer utility account. A combined water and sewer monthly base fee is $45.00 per month ($90 per two-month billing cycle), assessed on a per-unit/account holder basis. The combined water and sewer consumption/usage charge is $7.72 per 1,000 gallons of water. Usage is calculated using the measurement from the meter located at each unit.
The most frequent reason for an unexpectedly high water bill is a leak somewhere in your home. If you cannot see water leaking in a sink or the washing machine it is probably in the toilet. The easiest way to check for a leak is to take food coloring (sold in the baking aisle at the grocery store; test kits available at the Municipal Center in limited quantities) and put it into the toilet tank. If there is a leak the water will color the water in the bowl with the dye. A leaky toilet can use about 800 gallons of water a day. Leaks can be easy to fix with a repair kit from the hardware store.
Water bills are always due the first Thursday of even-numbered months. Any account not paid in full is automatically mailed a reminder notice of the balance currently due, with a new due date.
We understand that unexpected things happen. The first time your payment is received late, we will mail a reminder notice but the penalty is waived. Additional late payments will receive a 10% penalty.
If both due dates pass and the utility balance remains outstanding, we will deliver a final notice reminder (green sticker) with a shutoff date listed. Please call or contact the Municipal Center (847/464-5533, ext. 1511) if you are unable to make full payment to avoid shutoff and allow us to go over possible options to avoid disconnection.
Water service reconnection requires payment of the balance in full plus a reconnection fee of $75. Payment can be submitted via cash or check payment at the Municipal Center front desk, a check may be dropped in the 24/7 Drop Box at the Municipal Center, or credit/debit payment can be made online. After payment is submitted, please contact the Customer Service Representative to dispatch a technician for reconnection. The Village does require someone present inside the home during reconnection to ensure no fixtures are running or leaking unobserved.
Public Works performs reconnections 7:00 am-2:30 pm but the administrative office is open 8:30 am-5:00 pm. For reconnections before 8:30 am please plan on scheduling the day before with the Customer Service Representative. Reconnections can be performed outside of normal hours for an additional $75 fee. For reconnection after hours, please call 630-232-8400 after your payment (including reconnection fee) has been submitted.
