Water/sewer usage is billed on a two-month cycle. Usage meters are read at the end of even-numbered months (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct, and Dec), and billed at beginning of odd-numbered months (Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov). Download a Utility Billing Calendar for specific details.
To fund the operating expenses, debt service, capital improvements and replacement costs for Village water and sewer treatment infrastructure, a minimum rate structure is imposed on each water and sewer utility account. A combined water and sewer monthly base fee is $45.00 per month ($90 per two-month billing cycle), assessed on a per-unit/account holder basis. The combined water and sewer consumption/usage charge is $7.72 per 1,000 gallons of water. Usage is calculated using the measurement from the meter located at each unit.
The most frequent reason for an unexpectedly high water bill is a leak somewhere in your home. If you cannot see water leaking in a sink or the washing machine it is probably in the toilet. The easiest way to check for a leak is to take food coloring (sold in the baking aisle at the grocery store; test kits available at the Municipal Center in limited quantities) and put it into the toilet tank. If there is a leak the water will color the water in the bowl with the dye. A leaky toilet can use about 800 gallons of water a day. Leaks can be easy to fix with a repair kit from the hardware store.
Accounts that are not paid in full by due date indicated on invoice are assessed a 10% late fee which is added to the balance of the account. A late notice will be mailed with the new balance due within 10-days of notice. If the late notice due date passes and the balance on the account remains outstanding, a final notice will be posed on the residence. The final notice will indicate the final due date attempt and notice of service disconnection should payment not be received. If service is disconnected, a $75 service reinstatement fee will be added to the outstanding balance which will be due prior to reconnection. Service restoration is conducted between the hours of 8:00 am – 2:00 pm M-F. Restoration requested outside of this time will incur an additional $75 reinstatement fee ($150 total). Service will be reinstated once the outstanding account balance plus a $75 reinstatement fee is paid in full. Once payment is made contact the Village Municipal Center to schedule service re-connection. The Village does require someone present inside the home at time of reconnection to ensure no fixtures are running or leaking unobserved.
If service is disconnected, a $75 service reinstatement fee will be added to the outstanding balance and due prior to reconnection. Service restoration is conducted between the hours of 8:00 am – 2:00 pm Monday through Friday. Restoration requested outside of this time will incur an additional $75 reinstatement fee ($150 total). Payment and requests for reconnection after normal business hours (M-F 8:30am-5:00pm), can be made by calling 630-232-8400. Residents who will be away from their home for more than 2 months may inquire if they are eligible for a Voluntary Service Suspension. Service must be discontinued entirely, so if someone is at the house to perform work requiring water or if the home is for sale and water is required for real estate showings, the voluntary service shutoff may not be a viable option.
