Yesterday's snowfall, followed by freezing rain, created challenging conditions for snow removal. Wet and heavy snow can damage mailboxes as it exits the plow's blade, and this event was no exception. As a reminder to residents, the Village is responsible for replacement only where there is clear evidence of our plows or equipment making direct contact with a properly installed mailbox. Most often it is not the trucks, but rather the snow itself that causes damage to mailboxes that can’t withstand the force of the snow. There is simply no good way to avoid snow being thrown to the parkway when plowing streets.
The present ordinance on this topic requires residents to mend damages arising from normal snow clearing activity. Given the nature of yesterday's event, the Village is accepting reports of damage to document the extent of impacts arising out of yesterday’s event. To report a damaged mailbox, please email info@pingreegrove.org and include the address, your contact information, and attach a photograph.
