A quick note for our residents: we have been advised that the United States Department of Commerce will begin conducting census fieldwork in the Village, in anticipation of the 2020 federal census. Under federal law, census workers are not required to obtain any local permits, and are not subject to Village regulation. Accordingly, federal census workers will not have a Village-issued solicitor or canvasser permit. Any other solicitor or canvasser should have a Village-issued permit.
If you are approached by a person who identifies themselves as working on the census, they will have an ID-badge issued by the federal government; please ask them to show you. If they fail or refuse, please contact the Pingree Grove Police Department. Census workers may ask you about the number or age of persons within your household, or other basic demographic information. They will never ask for social security numbers, banking information or other personal identifiers. For more information on what you may be asked about, click here. The Census is not completed online or by email. Census workers will not enter your home. For more information on avoiding Census fraud, take a look at the AARP handout available here. If you have any questions, please let us know--and remember that while we encourage (and request) full participation in the Census, we want all of our residents to have a safe experience and to avoid fraud!
